Whilst there’s certainly more progress to be made, especially in larger corporate entities, franchising is one of the avenues that has been at the forefront of welcoming women in recent years. Why? Because we know how mutually beneficial the relationship can be between our brand and our female franchisees.
Female franchisees are often looking for an opportunity that allows them to fulfil their professional and financial ambitions just as much as their personal ones. For International Women’s Day this year, I want to share some of the key attributes that women possess that make them great franchisees.
Communication is an invaluable skill in the workplace and beyond, and women have the much-needed ability to talk things through, creating transparency with all stakeholders. This also helps when having to communicate remotely – as we’ve discovered during the last year – as things can still be resolved no matter what barriers might be in the way.
This provides the best environment for helping peers to succeed. This is further illustrated as women are typically empathetic and value relationships. They are not just in it for themselves, rather they understand how success can be felt throughout the entire network. Similar to how a problem shared is a problem halved, a success shared is a success multiplied.
Just like the point above, women possess an innate ability to recognise and react to emotions in the workplace. Listening to others and picking up on emotional cues means they not only develop a great team spirit, which is enviable, but they are able to bring out the best in others.
Level of organisation
It’s a well-known fact that female business owners can constantly strike the balance between the complexities of their job and personal life. Their ability to multi-task and practise agile working is typically second to none. For many management franchises, there are often many things to be juggling at once – being organised is key and it’s typically a skill that women possess in bucketloads.
Value of work-life balance
The narrative has moved far beyond wanting to ‘have it all’. Women want to do what works for them, and personal goals are always part of that equation. The modern business landscape is seeing women who are unwilling to sacrifice their ambitions for the age-old perceptions of family life and are determined to find a balance that gives them the most satisfaction.
As all of the above points demonstrate, woman are hard workers. That’s not to say that men aren’t, but women are continuing to show true tenacity and resilience in recent times. They know the job at hand, understand what it takes to get it done and will stop at nothing until the task is completed.
