Celebrating YouCanCare Week with Home Instead

Award-winning franchise keen to highlight training opportunities and career development for care professionals

Celebrating YouCanCare Week with Home Instead

Leading care provider Home Instead is using YouCanCare Week to promote training opportunities that exist within the award-winning franchised company. Home Instead has always viewed the care industry as being a gateway for those who consider employment in this sector as a vocation, rather than simply a job. And the same goes for those wishing to become new business partners with Home Instead.

YouCanCare Week, which was the brainchild of Home Instead, runs from February 27th through to March 5th, and is now a popular annual event. In a press release published by Home Instead, the company said they wanted YouCanCare Week to ‘shine a light on all the wonderful people working in the care sector.’

The franchise is hoping that by making more people aware of the work opportunities available in this fast-growing industry, it will ‘encourage others to consider a career in care.’ They are hoping this week is ‘a time when the sector comes together to celebrate the huge difference made to so many lives’.

And with this thought in mind, the chief executive of Home Instead UK, Martin Jones, said: “This year we’re keen to highlight the Care Career Pathway that we offer. Often people view care simply as a job. But they underestimate the training opportunities and career journey that is open to them.

“We’re proud to see our care professionals go from strength-to-strength by undergoing training, which helps them to deliver the highest quality care. Our franchise owners play an important role in providing support for these care professionals, helping them to develop a diverse set of skills which enables them to care for people with varying needs.”

Those who sign up with Home Instead will undergo initial training, which prepares them for carrying out the standard day-to-day care duties that the company provides for their clients.

From this point in their careers, care professionals are encouraged to boost their own skills by undertaking further training opportunities. This includes a variety of City & Guilds courses, which focus on a range of important care issues, such as dementia, end-of-life training and Parkinson’s. By widening their skillsets, care professionals will be able to deliver specialist care to clients with complex needs.

For those keen to learn more about Home Instead’s career opportunities, they can read the story of one of the company’s care professionals living in Cumbria. Laura Holliday is employed by Home Instead South Lakes, and her career within the care industry was highlighted in this article which appeared in the Daily Mirror during 2022.

Laura, from Sedbergh, gave up her job as a chef to work in the care industry. In this feature she discusses a number of topics, such as her day-to-day duties; the benefits which elderly residents who continue to live at home can enjoy; what she loves about her job; the challenges she faces; the training she has undertaken and her ambitions for future.
