Easy does it

The chief executive of easyStorage witnesses first-hand the excellent work being undertaken by charities supported by both his own company and the umbrella brand easyGroup.

In a year like no other, easyGroup have stepped up their commitment to support good causes at home and abroad. Among the charities to benefit are Food from the Heart and Fresh Food for the Frontline. The latter is a much needed initiative developed by Tim Slesinger, co-founder and chief executive of easyStorage. This charitable food project was set up earlier this year to support frontline workers, and vulnerable members of the public, during the height of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Tim identified the desperate need to ease some of the stress on key workers who didn’t have time to buy fresh food. As a result, Fresh Food for the Frontline set about delivering fruit, vegetables, bread, milk, eggs, and other healthy produce, to the doors of people working long hours in hospitals and care homes. The charity also supplied food to other key workers employed within local communities.

More than 3,300 weekly deliveries were made across London, Slough and Swindon, during the five-month project. They were assembled, dispatched and distributed by volunteers, supported by a fleet of 12 easyStorage vehicles. Tim said: “While the project has concluded for now, we have kept everything in place should frontline workers become overwhelmed by a second wave of Covid-19 and we are ready to re-start if demand returns.”

Tim has also been heavily involved in the great work being undertaken by easyGroup‘s Food from the Heart project, which is now in its eighth year. Food from the Heart is the brainchild of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, supporting local communities in Greece and Cyprus. The organisation distributes nutritious food to over 300,000 people every month. Tim accompanied Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou to the Charilaou Trikoupi distribution centre, which is one of seven such outlets in Athens alone. During his trip he helped to distribute food to more than 1,000 people who visited the centre.

And he added: “Seeing the great work Food from the Heart is doing is really inspiring.

This was my first visit to a distribution centre. It was heart-wrenching to see that there is so much need for this initiative, but heart-warming to see how Sir Stelios and his team have risen to the challenge, helping those who are simply otherwise forgotten.

“Sir Stelios spends approximately 30% of his time on the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation and is always keen that we help in any way we can. I was honoured to be able to spend a day witnessing the great work the foundation does.” During Tim’s trip, he also met with Sir Stelios to talk about easyStorage‘s quarterly update and discuss the company’s performance.
