Pitted against such names as Pure Gym, Leisure DB’s new report has franchising climbing towards the top of the list through Anytime Fitness

Flying the flag for franchising, Anytime Fitness becomes UK’s second biggest private gym

There has been an explosion of British gyms setting up shop in the last year. And such tectonic movements above all show the impressive gains of the franchising model as Anytime Fitness, the gym franchise, found itself among the best of the best in a new industry report.

According to the annual State of the UK Fitness Industry Report by Leisure DB, the market intelligence company, Anytime Fitness stands as the second biggest private gym operator in Britain with its 140 club-strong franchise. This ranks it just short of the first place spot given to Pure Gym, the fitness club chain, and first operator to hit the 200 gym milestone.

Swinging this close to the competition draws Anytime Fitness and indeed franchising on the map as a force to be reckoned with. Following the opening of its 4,000th worldwide gym and even plans to open for business in Antarctica, mastering the UK is a big feather in its global cap.

Commenting on the success, Stuart Broster, CEO of Anytime Fitness, said: “The franchise model and strength of the brand is allowing us to grow significantly and as well as successfully attracting new franchisees, we’re working hard to support our current network and encourage them to open more clubs with us. Over 60% of our franchisees are now multi-club owners and are playing a key part in our growth.

“We’re making a number of changes within the business that will also assist our growth and I would like to thank our customers (the franchisees) for working with us to drive both present and future success.”

With wind in its franchising sails, Anytime Fitness is already charting course to open an additional ten sites in the UK, effectively bringing franchising closer to top bill representation in next year’s Leisure DB report.
