Health and safety more important than ever

The need to keep the UK’s work spaces clean and healthy has taken on a greater significance, with TechClean doing their bit to stem the flow of Covid19.

With the on-going Coronavirus pandemic still very much a major global tragedy, with hundreds of people dying every day in the UK alone, the pressure on companies to keep their IT equipment clean and germ-free is greater than ever.

Even though many people are now working from home, there are still thousands of offices around the country where employees are carrying out their normal duties on a day-to-day basis.

These buildings may only have a skeleton staff in place but there remains a high risk of transferring this dangerous virus between humans.

Businesses such as high street banks, food outlets and newsagents largely remain open, albeit with a depleted number of employees turning up every day for work.

Despite the public taking great care over social distancing, along with the increasing use of facemasks, it is impossible to entirely remove all traces of Covid19.

The risk of transferring this virulent virus between humans may have been significantly reduced, thanks to those who have religiously followed government guidelines, but employers and employees must not overlook the threat of germs remaining on office furniture.

This is a particular issue when it comes to IT equipment, such as desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and the good old electronic mouse, not to mention the necessary tables and chairs.

An article in the popular magazine Marie Clare reported how ‘your desk accommodates 400 times more bacteria than a toilet seat.’

Apparently, ‘
more than 10 million germs are found on
the average work desk,
‘ while a study by Hloom discovered that the photocopier is usually one of the worst items of equipment for storing germs.

One company at the forefront of maintaining standards within the work place, and very much on the front line when it comes to keeping IT equipment safe and healthy, is TechClean.

Established 37 years ago, with their headquarters in Leicestershire, TechClean specialise in cleaning personal computers (screens, phones, keyboards, pointing equipment) and data rooms.

They are a franchise business with eight regional offices covering many areas of the UK.

They work with managers, IT professionals and data centre bosses every day of the week, and it’s become more important than ever to rid these offices and buildings of viruses and germs.

One of its franchise partners is Susan Davies, a former teacher who joined TechClean six years ago.

Davies looks after the South Wales region and understands the vital role being played by TechClean, during the current Covid19 crisis.

She said: “Our service has never been in greater demand. We provide a regular effective cleaning service for office equipment that comes into regular contact with human hands.

“These include laptops, PCs, printers, photocopiers and telephones. In today’s age of superbugs, office hygiene has shot straight to the top of most companies’ list of priorities.

“Businesses understand the importance of reducing workplace sickness, which can cost them thousands of pounds every year.”

The mother of four started Techclean South
Wales
after her youngest child went to university.

She was searching for a new challenge and wanted to grow a business she could operate from home.

She researched franchise opportunities and discovered that TechClean‘s south Wales’ territory was up for grabs.

Davies employs a team of three and the business is growing steadily. In many ways they are all currently ‘key workers’.

Among their many clients are the National Library of Wales, EDF Energy, HPC Swansea (which services computer functions for universities in south Wales), The Public Services Ombudsman of Wales, along with a number of call centres across the region.

Davies added: “It is great working with a variety of people in different environments. I enjoy travelling to clients’ businesses, and would hate to be stuck behind a desk working in an office every day.

“I get a huge amount of satisfaction from my job. We go into an office and in just a few hours make such a big difference to their working environment.”
