Home Instead has expressed their joy at being named franchisor of the year at the British Franchise Awards, which were sponsored by banking giants HSBC. As with most awards’ ceremonies to have taken place during the past nine months, the event was conducted online. However, this did not detract from the pleasure felt by staff members, officials and franchisees of Home Instead, following the announcement that they had won this extremely prestigious award.

This particular award represents the pinnacle of franchising, and involves a rigorous judging process. Ruth Brown, Home Instead‘s Business Development Director, said: “We are honoured to have been named the Gold Franchisor of the Year. This award is very special, but to win it in 2020 feels extra special as it’s been such an extraordinary year.

“This accolade is down to the hard work and commitment of so many people, such as our 60-strong team at the National Office, as well as our franchise owners and their amazing ‘caregivers’. And we could not accept this award without thanking the many clients and their families who entrust their care to us. Thank you also to the British Franchise Association (BFA) for bestowing this honour on us.”

In making the award ‘virtually’ Pip Wilkins, CEO of the BFA, acknowledged Home Instead‘s ethical approach to franchising and the support they give to their franchisees as they work to become the most admired care company in the UK. Their entry had focused on their belief that ‘in-home care’ should now be considered the default norm, rather than the current ‘care home’ option. This message is backed up by the company’s high-profile national television advertising campaign.

Home Instead‘s entry also focused on their ‘franchise journey’ which was introduced to support franchisees to be the best they can through a programme of on-going operational and wellbeing support. During the formal interview stage, Home Instead discussed the wide range of support they have been able to deliver to their franchise owners, who faced many new challenges in lockdown, as well as during the on-going Covid crisis.

Andy Brattesani, UK Head of Franchising at HSBC, said: “Home Instead Senior Care impressed the judges with its heavy focus on the wellbeing of their franchisees and caregivers.” Home Instead is on the lookout for new franchisees with unclaimed territories still available across the UK, as well as a small number of resales for those looking to purchase an already established business.

Founded in the United States, Home Instead opened its UK doors 15 years ago and has their headquarters in Warrington. Today, they have over 200 locally owned and operated offices across the country, delivering over six million hours of care each year, to more than 21,000 clients, while employing around 13,000 people. As a national home care provider, it specialises in offering care and companionship in the home for older people. It also delivers specialist dementia care, plus live-in care, end-of-life and respite care.
