Subway celebrates 500 non-traditional stores in UK

Many have experienced the long stretches of motorway driving, praying for a service station that offers more than a Little Chef. Motorists can now rest easy in the knowledge that Subway chains are cropping up in a number of service and petrol stations to serve up scrumptious subs to drained drivers.

Without a doubt, 2015 has been a year of rising success for Subway. It has just reached the mighty milestone of 500 non-traditional stores – those not on the high street, reaching customers nationwide in service stations and petrol stations as well as feeding those in hospitals, universities and colleges. Earlier this year, the chain announced that it had opened its 2000th Subway store in the UK and Ireland and has set its sights on opening 3000 stores by 2020.

Subway has gone from strength to strength, surpassing McDonald’s with its number of franchises and, predictably, non-traditional stores will continue bringing in the dough for the sandwich giant. It already holds partnerships with many high profile operators including Break, Euro Garages, Blakemore, Applegreen and Sodexo.

The ongoing development of non-traditional stores has seen an influx in the number of petrol forecourts, convenience stores and transport hubs housing the healthier fast food chain. The focus on non-traditional stores has also led to a number of convenience stores partnering with the franchise, making it a key player in the convenience retail sector.

“”As the UK and Ireland’s largest specialist sandwich provider, it is vital for the Subway brand to lead the way in the convenience retail sector,” said Alice Chalmers, national accounts manager for Subway UK and Ireland.”

“When discussing opportunities with potential franchisees and landlords, the Subway brand highlights the benefits that the addition of a Subway franchise into a convenience store can bring; for example increased footfall and excellent business growth opportunities.”

It’s safe to say that if you son’t currently live within five miles of a Subway, the chances are you will soon.” /></p>
