Successful franchise Bluebird Care outlines the reasons why elderly home care is currently a lucrative business in the UK.

If any industry appears well placed to continue growing over the coming years and decades, it has to be ‘elderly care’. Not only is the number of people over the age of 65 getting higher and higher with each passing month, the ongoing pandemic has meant more and more of the UK’s elderly are choosing home care over all other forms of care, such as residential.

So for anyone keen to run a business in this sector, there is no better time than now to get started. One company already performing with distinction is Bluebird Care (BC) who recently gave an interview to Elite Franchise (EF) to discuss why ‘elderly home care’ is a booming business right now. 

EF: Do you have any figures to explain the business potential available in home care?

BC: Absolutely. The average Bluebird Care franchise partner achieves a £1m turnover within a three-year period. And it’s not uncommon for those in business for longer than this to enjoy a £6m turnover, as they grow with a scalable and low-risk business model. We currently have more than 200 franchise partners enjoying success with Bluebird Care.  

EF: What makes this possible

BC: Firstly, the industry is growing. The care industry has regularly been in the spotlight during the pandemic, because infection control measures in residential care homes became a focal point. It soon became apparent that our elderly were safer in their own homes, where visitors and the spread of infection could be controlled. Demand for home care rocketed and businesses grew, and it shows no signs of stopping. In fact, the Government are focussing on home care to help absorb the strain on the NHS

EF: And why Bluebird Care

BC: As the UK’s largest home care franchisor, and with 17 years of experience, we have honed our business processes to near-perfection. Each franchise territory covers an area of population of between 150,000 and 200,000. And each new owner benefits from 18 months of tailored business support from a dedicated and experienced manager. They assist with setting up the business, finding premises, helping with recruitment and shaping marketing systems.  

EF: What else can a new franchisee expect

BC: Every new owner receives training at our head office, as well as being allocated a dedicated mentor. They are given comprehensive business plans, as well as access to all operational procedures and policies. Our support centre comprises of regional managers who are specialists in their own fields, such as marketing, quality and business development. We also run weekly workshops on various hot topics which franchise owners can attend. These platforms offer a unique opportunity to share ideas, and also chat to other franchise owners.

EF: Who do you consider to be good franchisee material?

BC: An ideal Bluebird Care franchisee currently has mid-senior level management experience, and is adept at running large teams. We look for people with great business acumen, but they do not necessarily have to have previous experience in the care industry. We will help owners recruit a care manager, as well as teams of care assistants who display the right attitude
