Tim Hortons announces location of first UK store

When it comes to iconic Canadian brands, it’s hard to beat Tim Hortons, the coffee and doughnut franchise. Having been founded by its namesake – the popular ice-hockey player – in 1964, the company has since become hugely popular across the globe. And, in May, Brits can finally discover for themselves what all the fuss is about when the franchise opens its first UK outlet.

According to Restaurant Brands International, the company that owns Tim Hortons, this first cafe will open on Glasgow’s busy Argyle Street and will be the first step in a planned rollout of the brand across the UK over the next 12 months. It will serve the franchise’s signature coffee drinks as well as a selection of pastries, doughnuts, sandwiches and other nibbles.

Restaurant Brands first revealed plans to venture into the UK market back in September 2016. At the time, it also announced that Gurprit Dhaliwal would serve as master franchise and COO for Tim Hortons’ UK and Ireland operations. An experienced franchise operator, Dhaliwal has previously helped Domino’s roll out its operations in the UK. And given that Tim Hortons has over 23,000 restaurants in over 100 countries, it’s easy to see why he’s excited about bringing the brand to these shores. “We’ve witnessed Tim Hortons’ phenomenal success in Canada and wanted to replicate this in Great Britain,” Dhaliwal said. “It’s hard to explain just how important Tim Hortons is to Canadians – it’s not just a restaurant, it’s a way of life and a place of ‘home’ and we’re positive Great Britain will fall in love the brand.”

With Tim Hortons claiming to serve eight of every ten cups in Canada, it certainly seems as if Glaswegians are in for a treat next month. /></p>
