From brewers licencing products to pubs in the 18th century to companies offering to make people’s homes smarter, franchising has a long history of successfully adapting to trends. And given the impact technology has had on businesses, it was only a matter of time before the model would be used in the new digital economy. One of the companies doing just that is Get Ahead VA, the virtual-assistant service. The firm has just launched its franchise model and recruited its first franchisee.
Company director Rebecca Newenham founded the business in 2010 to give busy entrepreneurs and freelancers a helping hand with answering calls, social media management, administration, email marketing and website design. Looking for a way to expand the business, Newenham decided that franchising was the best option and hired a franchising consultant last year. Her efforts have certainly paid off now that the business has announced that Carrie Jones has bought the company’ first franchise in Reading.
And having worked with Get Ahead VA as a virtual assistant since 2016, Jones is no stranger to the business model. “I decided to become a Get Ahead franchisee as I wanted to expand my own business,” she said. “The franchise gives me the support, knowledge and insight of a successful business owner who has been there done that, allowing me to focus on tried and tested methods for growing my business.””
We’re willing to hazard a guess that Get Ahead VA won’t be the last digital business to go down the franchising road.
