Back to school: Why September is a great time to launch a franchise

Whilst January signifies the begin of a new year for many of us, you might be one of those people who believe that September is a fresh start. With the return to school successfully ticked off the list, you’ll probably be turning your attention to yourself – what do you want to do now? Maybe you’ve got a new lease of love for your previous career, or perhaps the holidays have urged you to consider making your very own changes. Alongside the change of season and shift in gear for the end of the year comes exciting new franchise opportunities, and it’s your chance to grab the proverbial bull by the horns and take charge.

And the results are speaking for themselves, with a survey revealing that the average person is 20 percent more productive in autumn than winter, 11 percent more productive than spring and 7 percent more productive than summer. The very same survey shows that the three most productive months of the year are September, October and November. Although there is speculation around this being the case so people can cram in work before the holidays, I believe it’s an entirely different reason within the franchising world. So why is now a great time? Let’s look at some of the benefits.

If you’re looking for a premises, this is much more seamless during the autumn, especially those within retail as shopping centres and cities are keen to fill empty units before the inevitable Christmas rush. There’s an opportunity to find a great deal on a space that works perfectly for the franchise you’ll be setting up, whether it’s for a restaurant or an office.

Recruiting operational staff is often easier during this time of year too, as children go back to school and parents are now looking for part-time flexible work that fits around their lifestyle. Cities usually experience a significant increase in population around term time, as students migrate from other regions to begin their university degrees. This helps to grow your potential pool of talent and comes in handy when searching for your first, second or 20th employee.

If you’re looking for flexibility and the franchise that works around your own interests – whether that be family, personal or adventure time – brands that highlight themselves during this recruitment drive in particular are typically going to adhere to that lifestyle. But that’s not to say that they won’t also allow for significant profit and return on investment; it just means that you’ll be able to enjoy the fruits of your own labour whilst keeping the momentum going.

At Tutor Doctor, we receive a lot of interest from parents and former teachers. Not only due to their understanding of what our mission is within education, but because our business promotes a certain type of lifestyle. Our franchisees work hard but they can also enjoy the benefits of that hard work paying off.

Just like children at the beginning of the school year, investing in a franchise means that your time to learn never stops. There are gaps to be filled in every aspect, including finance, marketing, sales, social media etc, and you can widen your knowledge to benefit your franchise. A franchise offers a great all-rounder for boosting your own skillset to help as the business grows.

Remember, though, you don’t have to know about all of this prior to your investment. You’ll be given the training to get your franchise up and running, equipping you with the business know-how to get started straight away.

As the year speeds towards the finishing line, there’s still plenty of time to make a change in your life. If the summer holidays have left you feeling a little deflated, dreading the return to the commute and office politics, September is the perfect catalyst to help you take your chance. And with exhibition season almost upon us, it’s time to go out with the old and in with the new.
