It’s not bragging if it’s true: Reasons to keep a feedback folder

Running a business can be a lonely place. Whether you are a franchisee or franchisor, it can be demanding keeping yourself and your colleagues motivated, holding yourself accountable and taking consistent action towards your objectives and goals. It’s only normal and natural that the weight of your responsibilities will sometime cause you to feel overwhelmed from time to time and when we feel overwhelmed, procrastination and self-doubt can be found closely behind.

One thing that I’ve observed is that not all franchise professionals are great at singing their own praises for fear of feeling uncomfortable or it being seen as bragging. This is something I always like to challenge because it’s not bragging if it’s true!

There is one quick thing that you can do to help with all of this – some of the negative impacts of overwhelm and the fears around celebrating your achievements. It’s an incredibly simple trick, it won’t add any time to your working day or cost you any money, but it will give you a big boost when you need it most. You just need to get into the habit.

The secret is to keep a ‘feedback folder’.

You could choose to keep a feedback folder within your emails, on your computer or a physical book or file or even a section of your office wall or whiteboard. Once your feedback folder (or brag file if that resonates with you more) has been created, all you need to do is save all the positive feedback you receive in this folder.

This feedback doesn’t always have to be a formal testimonial from a client, it could be a simple thank you from someone or even some reassuring words from a friend. The aim of the game is to store any kind words that others share with you.

Then, in the future when you find your motivation wavering or procrastination sinking in, you can dip into this folder to remind yourself just how incredible you are and of the real, tangible impact you and your business makes.

You can always take it up a level and take the opportunity to share the words that have uplifted you via your social media channels or within your own networks as social proof or as a way to encourage and inspire others to keep their own feedback folder.

Try it out. I promise you, if you can remember, it will bring a smile to your face when you need it most.
