I normally start the day by analysing trends. Specifically by monitoring productivity from previous days, and seeing if this can be tweaked to ensure maximum output during the day ahead. By doing this we can ensure we optimise sales growth and use store teams in the most efficient way, by adapting hours where needed. I’m fortunate to be able to access great tools from Subway that allow us to monitor sales hour by hour and now even in 15-minute increments. I find this a productive way to kick-start my day and plan for the working day ahead!
I then head into Bath and visit the first of my four stores. The store managers usually do the opening shifts so I get the chance to catch up with them and spend time going through the data, discussing how we can adapt for the current day. As all of my stores are within walking distance, I visit the others and do the same with each store manager.
Late morning, I set up my office in one of the stores and review my emails. As I am part of the regional marketing team, there’s often tasks to do and finances to monitor as we look at the distributing new marketing material effectively. I also use the Subway internal communications portal, The Feed, to ensure all operational updates are communicated to the relevant teams.
After lunch I work my way through any paperwork. Since Covid-19, there has been some extra admin to do, especially with government schemes that have been a fantastic support system to my business. I like to make sure that I spend time checking all of the information that I send back is correct.
At the end of the day, I’ll head home and do a final review of any emails that need addressing. After work, I normally run or cycle to keep up my fitness levels as I’ve been training for The Three Peaks Challenge! A team of us are raising money for Cancer Research UK, a charity which does incredible work, and we’re pleased to have raised nearly £8,000 in sponsorship.
Running a Subway store can be hard work, but also extremely rewarding. There are many benefits to owning your own business, I have a great team that help me ensure the business is operated to a high standard and I couldn’t do it without them.
