Visiting Angels triumphs with top award for employee wellbeing

Visiting Angels, the home care franchise renowned for its carer-centric approach, has been named the winner of the Best Employee Benefits Package at the esteemed Great British Workplace Wellbeing Awards. The prestigious event, held at Grosvenor House in central London on 20th March, celebrated organisations that place employee wellbeing at the heart of their operations.

The Great British Workplace Wellbeing Awards spotlight businesses that go the extra mile to support the mental, physical and emotional health of their teams. Recognising initiatives that foster genuine change, the awards honour companies that lead by example and create positive, lasting impacts for UK workers.

“When we launched Visiting Angels, we made a point of addressing the elephant in the room,” said Dan Archer, UK CEO of Visiting Angels UK. “The challenges in adult social care recruitment and retention are well documented – 132,000 empty positions and a tidal wave of demand have led to worsening staff shortages. But we believed we could do something about that. Better pay, proper contracts – not zero hours – meaningful benefits, ongoing support and a true people-first culture. That’s what we’ve built, and it’s making a real difference.”

Visiting Angels shone brightly among an impressive list of nominees, including industry heavyweights such as Sky, GSK and Unilever. Judges were particularly impressed by the company’s dedication to its caregivers, noting key initiatives such as above-average pay, mental health support, clear career progression and paid drive time. These measures have resulted in reduced staff turnover, improved morale and an engaged workforce, contributing to an impressive 91% staff retention rate – significantly outperforming the national average of 70.7%.*

“In a sector facing the challenges that social care does, it’s remarkable to see a home care business gain this kind of recognition,” added Dan. “We’re working hard to make the role of a caregiver more attractive and to bring new talent into the sector. It’s more than a little overwhelming to see those efforts rewarded in this way for our team.”

With the care sector grappling with ongoing recruitment and retention challenges, Visiting Angels has demonstrated that a people-first culture can deliver real results. By offering meaningful benefits, proper contracts and ongoing support, the organisation is not only enhancing the lives of its caregivers but also setting a benchmark for the wider social care industry.

The Visiting Angels team is proud to receive this recognition from the Great British Workplace Wellbeing Awards, standing alongside other industry leaders committed to putting employee wellbeing at the forefront. This accolade marks a significant milestone in Visiting Angels’ mission to inspire positive change across the sector and ensure that caregivers are valued, supported and rewarded for their vital contributions.
