The prestigious BFA HSBC UK British Franchise Awards recently celebrated its 35th anniversary, recognising outstanding achievements across the franchising sector.
Industry leaders gathered at Telford International Centre for the milestone event, which took place following an inspirational conference featuring renowned entrepreneur and ‘The Diary of a CEO’ host Steven Bartlett. The conference, backed by Citation and Evolve, set the stage for the evening’s celebrations.
As the sector’s voluntary self-regulating governing body, the British Franchise Association continues to uphold exceptional standards through their ‘Discover Your Tomorrow’ initiative. Their rigorous assessment process ensures members demonstrate the highest levels of ethical conduct and operational excellence.
A significant highlight of 2023 was the introduction of the BFA Journal, with support from NIC Services Group. This publication unveiled groundbreaking industry research – the first comprehensive analysis since 2018. The findings painted an impressive picture: franchising now contributes £19.1 billion to Britain’s economy, with the Personal Services segment experiencing a remarkable expansion of 53%. Perhaps most notably, the sector maintained its reputation for stability, recording a minimal commercial failure rate of just 0.5%. Read more about the BFA Journal here.
“The British Franchise Awards have consistently demonstrated the best of the UK franchising industry, and the breadth of applications from franchisees and franchisors this year, highlights the value placed in a BFA HSBC UK British Franchise Award; the pinnacle of achievement in the UK franchise industry. Judging the finalists was challenging but rewarding and I was delighted that on awards night, we were able to showcase the talent and success of the UK industry. Huge congratulations to all the winners, and to the shortlisted finalists.”
Pip Wilkins, CEO of the BFA, who celebrated her 25th anniversary with the association this year said: “Another year of inspiring entries demonstrating well thought out strategies, forward thinking innovation, carefully considered insight and ultimately, growth for franchise brands. In this our survey year, which revealed a 53% growth in the Personal Services sector, it is perhaps unsurprising to see so many of them here as winners tonight. My enormous congratulations to all the finalists and of course, the winners. We hope this award will give you the recognition you deserve as the best in British Franchising.”
