Entries open for 2021 British Franchise Awards

Members of UK’s franchising community encouraged to take part in industry ‘Oscars’.

It’s that time of the year again, when UK franchising recognises the leading performers in the industry. Franchisors and franchisees are invited to enter this year’s British Franchise Awards, with the winners announced at the end of November.

Sponsored by HSBC, and organised by the British Franchise Association, the ceremony is dubbed ‘the Oscars of UK franchising’, with 11 main awards up for grabs. Entries close on August 13, with the ceremony taking place on November 30. The annual awards celebrate the innovation, dedication and devotion of franchisors and franchisees to their businesses, customers, clients and staff members.

Speaking at the launch, Pip Wilkins, the chief executive of the British Franchise Association (BFA), commented: “There have been incredible displays of commitment to franchising over the past year. It has been an extremely tough year but fortunately many franchise businesses have thrived. We like to think the BFA has played its part in all of this, by providing much needed support in the shape of training and supplying helpful information.

“With the vast number of redundancies or career changes occurring in UK business, since the Government’s first lockdown, franchising has offered a great route towards self-employment. Our industry has the potential to turn someone’s passion into a career, alongside a positive work-life balance.

“Community is a huge part of the franchising world, and these awards will allow everyone to come together to share their experiences, while also celebrating success. I have been overwhelmed by the resilience of the whole franchise network during the past 12 months and more. I can’t wait to hear from the many franchisees and franchisors that have gone above and beyond in carrying out their duties.”

Andrew Brattesani, head of UK franchising at HSBC, added: “If ever there was a year to be proud of what you have achieved this is the one. I fear the judging will be tougher than ever, once we hear about the resilience and adaptability of our industry. I am always proud to support these awards, and I think we’ll witness a higher level of performances than ever before.”

As for those who will be named as the ‘best in class’ for 2021, it is always a proud moment as last year’s winner of the Franchisee Next Generation Award can testify. James Burke, an ActionCOACH franchisee from Salford, admitted: “Being shortlisted for a BFA award has got to be one of the highlights of 2020. To be recognised for our efforts and contribution makes all the difference in the world. The award ceremony was great, and to win the award was just mind-blowing.”

The BFA welcomes entries from its business service members who are invited to share their story.
