As care industry continues to grow, Barnsley franchisee announces plans to create 75 new jobs.
The growing need for more ‘in-the-home care’ has reached new heights in Yorkshire, where one Caremark franchisee has announced plans to expand their business by more than 30%.
Over the next 12 months, the Barnsley office has indicated that they will increase its in-house team by 75. They already employ 110 people, and are predicting a massive rise in new business by the end of the year.
The company’s caregivers already provide 1,650 hours of care each week to 125 people living in Barnsley and the surrounding area. And they expect this number of hours to reach 2,500 by the start of 2022.
This growth is due to an increase in demand for its wide range of services from both the publicly funded sector, such as Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, and private clients.
In-the-home care is in huge demand, and a recent YouGov survey highlighted that 92% of people over the age of 50 said they would prefer to be cared for in their own house, rather than in a residential home.
Barnsley franchisee Varghese Thomas said: “There is growing demand for home care services, especially as a consequence of Covid-19. The pandemic has resulted in the mortality rate being highest among people aged 80 and over.
“Being at home over the last year has been safer than anywhere else, so we are getting more enquiries from people who want to remain in their own home but require our support to enable them to do so.
“To meet this demand, we are looking to grow the number of care hours we provide by at least 30% throughout the rest of 2021. But obviously, to achieve this, we need to recruit staff that will help us deliver this care.”
Among the many wide-ranging tasks provided by caregivers include helping with meals and household chores; to more complex needs such as supporting those with physical and/or learning disabilities, dementia, and autism.
Varghese added: “Our care and support workers have been on the frontline throughout the pandemic. They ensure that our customers can remain living as independently as possible in their own homes.
“It’s not always an easy job but immensely rewarding, and has a positive impact on people’s lives. Anyone keen to run their own company, using our tried and tested business model. This is an ever-growing industry.”
