Making a name in British franchising

In association with HSBC, the Elite Franchise Top 100 (EF100) ranks the best-performing brands, taking into account their size, growth, ambitions and contributions made to franchisees and their community. Our entrants are also judged on any innovative measures they’ve initiated to insulate their network of franchisees, along with growth targets for the next financial year. Placing on the list is an incredible achievement for these brands, having all provided fantastic services throughout the unforgettable year of 2020.

Home Instead Senior Care, the pioneering market leader in the provision of relationship-led care for older people, took first place on the 2021 list. Established in 2005, with 225 franchisees UK-wide, the domiciliary care brand will now hold the title for the duration of 2021. In 2020, Home Instead acquired ‘SuperCarers’ as part of their ambitious plans to extend its live-in care offering for franchise owners.

“Placing first on the EF100 list is something we are incredibly proud of. It’s great for brands within the care sector to be recognised during such turbulent times. We are absolutely delighted to be able to celebrate our amazing franchisees and CAREGivers, who have gone above and beyond for our clients this year. Home is the place people feel happiest and most secure, and our services truly support that. Here at Home Instead, we care about support, we care about training, we care about success and most importantly, we care about care,” said Ruth Brown, Business Development Director at Home Instead.

With courier services maintaining the economy throughout the pandemic, it stands to reason that global express logistics brand, InXpress, polled in second place. Established in 1999, the logistics specialist who provides consultive services and innovative software to SMEs, has almost 400 franchisees across 14 countries and a long history of managing successful business around the world.

“Taking second place on the EF100 list is such a huge achievement. Since the pandemic first hit UK shores in early 2020, our franchisees have continued to operate. In fact, not only have we been able to maintain the growth of our network, we have attracted new businesses too and secured a number of quality contracts,” said Melanie Spencer, Global Head of Marketing. “Being ranked so highly on this esteemed list is something our brilliant franchisees should be incredibly proud of and a sign of how well we work together.”

énergie Fitness, the longest established fitness franchisor in the UK, took third spot, climbing up the ranks from sixth place last year. The brand has made significant adaptations for the pandemic by launching their digital fitness solution; énergie Online. The new subscription package allows customers to access fitness and nutrition programmes from the safety of their own homes.

Coming in as the highest new entry is Pirtek, provider of hydraulic solutions and emergency hose replacement. Since its inception in 1980 and subsequent global expansion, Pirtek has built the broadest local and international footprint in the hydraulics industry. Today, they have 86 service centres and 300-plus service units across the UK and Ireland.

The highest climber from last year’s list is Drain Doctor, the UK’s number one emergency plumbing franchise. Leaping 26 places, Drain Doctor has thrived during the pandemic and has recently supported eight new franchise owners to launch their businesses.

The EF100 showcases franchises who have continued to provide exemplary services even through difficult times and our ranking demonstrates a range of successful franchises. It’s brilliant to see a variety across the sector making it into the esteemed poll for 2021.
