A Molly Maid franchisee from south-west London has been talking about her experiences as a mentor on the popular Channel 4 program Teen Mum Academy. Sandra Redmond, the franchise owner of Molly Maid in Wimbledon, has been helping one of the program’s six teenage mums to forge a career in business.

The purpose of Teen Mum Academy is to provide six young mothers – who are all aspiring entrepreneurs – to acquire the necessary skills for pursuing their own business ambitions. Sandra was one of the show’s mentors and it was her background in business which was frequently called upon to provide a vital source of information and assistance during Teen Mum Academy’s 10 episodes.

The young mums lived together during the filming of the program, all keen to understand what it takes to become a successful businesswoman. In Episode Seven, Sandra helps a young mum called Millie who one day hopes to run a cleaning business. Sandra opened her own Wimbledon business in 1995 and 14 years later was named the British Franchise Association’s ‘Franchisee of the year’.

She said of Millie: “I was so impressed. She jumped in with both feet and even when we put her in some challenging situations she remained composed and showed great wisdom, way beyond her years. I have kept in touch with her, even after the show ended, and I really hope she pursues her dreams and becomes a huge success.”

The series was made by the production company Dragonfly Film and Television. The show’s assistant producer Molly Moughen was delighted with the contribution made by Sandra: “She was an absolute joy to work with and I can see why she and Molly Maid are so successful.

“We dedicated a lot of time to making sure we were finding opportunities to help Millie grow her business. As soon as we learned about Molly Maid and met Sandra, we knew it would be a perfect fit.”

Millie was also complimentary about Sandra’s input, saying: “I gained so much confidence and knowledge from her coaching and we’ve kept in touch ever since. She’s offered to keep mentoring me, which is just what I need.” Follow Millie’s story, and the other young entrepreneurial mums, via E4 on demand.
