Education franchise in great demand as schools seek specialist tutoring during on-going pandemic
One sector to have found itself under the spotlight during the pandemic is education. With hundreds of thousands of UK children missing out on much-needed schooling during the past 20 months, due to various lockdowns and other restrictions, the educational needs of these youngsters have been badly affected.
As a result of these many hours of lost education, the tutoring industry has provided welcome support, where possible. Many schools have still not returned to ‘normal,’ with head teachers and local councils using tutoring organisations to plug some of the gaps. One well-established educational service to have enjoyed growth during this difficult period is Tutor Doctor.
The company, which offers in-home and online tutoring, has already launched 11 new franchisees in the UK this year, with another 14 local tutors recently signing business agreements and will be opening their doors soon. With demand for their services surging, Tutor Doctor UK has enjoyed a strong third quarter during 2021. Revenue growth is up by 5%, with sales up 38%, compared to the same period last year.
Amid this impressive performance, the global brand is on track to add another 160 franchise units, belonging to both single and multi-unit owners. Tutor Doctor, which has its headquarters in Toronto, Canada, began trading in 2000 and now has more than 700 units across 16 countries.
This year Tutor Doctor has introduced what they describe as ‘Innovation Squads.’ These are cross-functional teams that collaborate with franchisees with the purpose of improving the product and enhancing sales training. The franchise has also introduced performance and skill development tools for members of head office, with these being rolled out to franchisees next year as an Academy.
Frank Milner, the global president of Tutor Doctor, said: “Last year presented challenges to everyone, but our resilience and ability to innovate helped us to adapt to a changing world. It has allowed us to remain steadfast, while focusing on growth and performance. We take a people-focused approach to business and by doing so have been able to reach more students and more communities, thanks to our quality, in-home and online tutoring services.
“In the UK we’re working closely with schools to supply targeted support for their students. Earlier in the year we created a Schools Task Force. This is a collective group of franchisees who are focused on building relationships with local schools. More recently, two of our franchisees were selected as ‘Tuition Partners’ by the National Tutoring Programme (NTP). The NTP is a UK Government-funded scheme aimed at addressing learning loss during the pandemic.”
Tutor Doctor‘s growing ambition was illustrated in March of this year with the purchase of franchise brand Code Wiz. The Massachusetts-based technology company believe the easiest way to shape our children’s future is to teach them how to code and develop programming skills. They also focus heavily on critical thinking and problem solving. Code Wiz is expected to reach UK shores in the near future.
During the past 12 months, Tutor Doctor has added 58 new franchisees globally, covering 80 individual units. Their 700 franchisees have backgrounds that span education to business, with the company recently opening its first territory in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Tutor Doctor is an internationally renowned franchise that is on the lookout for new business partners: These are people who are involved in their local community, have a passion for education, and are keen to join a sustainable and scalable business.
