Who should you listen to before investing in a franchise?

There’s a unique kind of tension that comes with almost making a big decision. You’ve done the research. You’re excited. You can see what your future might look like

Who should you listen to before investing in a franchise?

Then someone says, “Are you sure this is the right move?” That moment of hesitation? It’s more common than you think.  In fact, I had it myself.

Back when I was first considering a home care franchise, I told my mates about it. Their reaction?  Well, they reacted like any 20-something person would, when their friend discloses they’re thinking of buying a home care franchise.  Not how I wanted them to!

When advice becomes a barrier

Franchise investment is a big decision – and naturally, you want to talk it through with the people around you.  But not everyone’s opinion will be useful.  In fact, some can derail your progress completely.

So, it’s your responsibility to choose who councils you.  I knew my mates had good intentions, but I also knew that they weren’t in the same headspace as me.  I don’t mean to say shut people out, but rather, about choose who you invite into that inner circle.

Because let’s face it, business advice from someone who’s never run a business?  Not always helpful.

The power of trusted input

One person’s input changed everything: my wife.  I don’t buy a shirt without asking for her opinion, let alone make major decisions without her insight.  She’s grounded, experienced, and always in my corner.  In fact, it was her idea for me to look into home care.  Without her perspective, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

That’s what I mean by a personal advisor.  Someone whose opinion you value because they know you, support you, and understand what’s at stake.

Business is personal – so get the right people involved

For many of our Walfinch prospects, this isn’t a solo decision.  We often meet entire families at discovery days – and we’re more than okay with that. Franchise ownership impacts more than just your career.  It impacts your finances, your time, and your lifestyle.

So yes, if a prospective franchisee turns up with their partner, kids, or even in-laws – we welcome them all.  We’ve had children drawing on the whiteboard during presentations, and yes, we stock snacks and Walfinch sticker-packs for little ones.  If that helps parents focus on the decision?  We’re all for it.

The best decisions are made together

You don’t need to make this decision alone – but don’t invite every voice into the room either.  Choose one or two people who genuinely want the best for you and understand what this could mean for your future.

Because with the right support around you, that leap into business ownership doesn’t seem quite so scary after all.
