Why franchising is Tinder for entrepreneurs (and six times more successful)

Tinder connects people searching for love. Franchising connects people searching for freedom. And delivers six times more success

Why franchising is Tinder for entrepreneurs

More people than ever want to work for themselves.

Since 2020 and the COVID pandemic, many have turned towards a lifestyle shaped by three ideas: flexibility, purpose and financial freedom. The result has been a rise in solo entrepreneurs eager to take control of their working lives.

But, much like dating, starting out alone can be unpredictable. Tinder, the world’s most popular dating app, has created more than 100 billion matches since its launch in 2012, but Tinder’s relationship success rate hovers around 12 % for long-term relationships.

In business, the numbers tell a similar story. Data shows that 60% of UK start ups close within three years. By huge contrast, the British Franchise Association reports that 93% of franchisees are profitable and fewer than 1% close each year due to commercial failure.

The comparison I draw here may be a bit of fun to emphasise my point, but the message is serious. Franchising connects ambition with structure, offering a proven model that supports people to build sustainable success. A much safer bet than tinder or going it alone in business!

Why franchising is the perfect match

Franchising is a business model where you run your own business using an established brand’s systems, support and resources. The irony is that despite such high success rates, many still do not see it as an immediate route to success.

Think of franchising as being matched with the perfect profile by the best fit algorithm. No awkward guesswork or false starts, just a partner that has already been vetted and verified. Entrepreneurs are often seen as lone wolves, but even the most driven can need backing. Franchising provides exactly that: a tested structure with the freedom to make it your own.

There is also a route for everyone. Retail, hospitality, childcare, events, marketing – franchising covers almost every sector. Whatever your passion, it lets you start several steps ahead. And just like on Tinder, you still hold the power to choose what fits.

Finding your first match

For those exploring self employment, a franchise removes much of the risk. You join a model that has already been tested, so instead of gambling on an idea, you work within a framework that has evidence behind it.

When researching opportunities, I would urge you to treat it like any long term commitment. Ask about the brand’s future plans, training and ongoing support. You need to know where it is heading and whether that direction aligns with your goals.

This early clarity is one of the strongest indicators of long term success. Franchisees who understand the strategy behind the model from the start are set to grow faster and more confidently.

Scaling the model

For established business owners, franchising offers a structured way to expand without losing control. It allows others to invest their own capital and operate under your brand, creating growth based on replication rather than reinvention.

Before taking this step, it is worth assessing whether your business is ready to be replicated and in turn if you are ready to let go and be vulnerable. Just like in any new partnership, you have got to be prepared to invest trust and time into expansion. Clear processes, consistent branding and documented systems are also essential. The franchise sector contributes more than £17 billion a year to the UK economy and supports over 700,000 jobs, proof that the model scales when systems and values align.

The route to lasting success

Franchising remains one of the most proven routes to business ownership in the UK. It gives entrepreneurs the chance to run their own enterprise with the guidance, systems and brand recognition that reduce risk.

For first time business owners, it offers a safer path to independence. For established entrepreneurs, it provides a model for sustainable growth.

Either way, franchising turns ambition into action, structure into success and vision into something that lasts longer than most marriages.
