People scroll on average the length of Big Ben each day! Let that sink in and then think about how are you going to get them to stop scrolling and watch what you have to say?
Every social media platform now is embracing video content, they know it keeps people on their platform because they’re watching 15s-10mins of a video rather than flicking quickly past an image, reading a quick caption or scrolling past one that just looks too long to even think about reading to the end.
So, what should we use? Well, there are various ways to get your potential customers/franchisees/clients or colleagues to engage with and get to know like and trust you.
- KNOW – talk to camera about you, what’s your background, what’s your passion, what’s your role, what do you like
- LIKE – use humour, link to trending sounds, employ funny lip syncs, talk about stories, show your passion, your fun personality. Be approachable and relatable; people will want to keep viewing your content and get to know and like you even more
- TRUST – show off your experience, qualifications, talk about myth busting, tips and tricks in business, tell stories.
Story telling is especially important so that when you say something and can evoke an emotion you’re really going to capture engagement by being memorable. The point is that people are generally nosey too, so they will watch until the end because they want to know how the story ends (P.S. this is great for any platform’s algorithm because it shows it your video is engaging).
Trending sounds. You can follow people who give alerts about trending sounds but if you really want to get to know a particular platform then you should at least spend some initial time just watching it. You can then get a feel for the type of content that performs well and then create similar content with the sounds they’re using or recent songs you keep seeing them using. However, you need to put your own spin on any trend because no one wants to watch the same style video over and over. Make it your own and relevant to the industry you’re in.
Now I’m not saying you should only post videos, even if I do so on my own channels; indeed, you can still mix up photos and artwork; but I really advise getting more video into your channels, make them energetic, so try capturing people’s attention in the first three seconds. You can do this with “hooks” don’t just say hi guys (people are so over hearing this and will scroll past); think of something people will want to know more about “did you know this” “I can’t believe I’ve only just discovered this”. If you do post photos though think of adding a few so they appear on a carousel, thus if the one image isn’t looked at then maybe the second or third will be.
If this sounds like something totally out of your comfort zone and you’d rather stick pins in your eyes then don’t be put off. You could interview people if you don’t like talking to camera or you could practice on stories because they disappear after 24 hours and you never need see it again 😉
Give it a go, you might even enjoy it and have lots of fun!
