Five tips for becoming a video sensation

Becoming an online influencer and thought leader is great for your personal brand and fantastic for business. Creating regular social videos is now incredibly easy to do, especially using tools like www.shoutout.social that enables you to make branded videos on a smartphone automatically. You can even get started by recording a clip on your phone and uploading it to social.

So, if technology is no longer a barrier and it’s so easy to become a video influencer why are more people not doing it? Especially considering how beneficial it is for you and your business.

It would appear that one of the biggest barriers to success is having a psychological block around it, being camera shy or having some kind of imposter syndrome. If you have been thinking about making more social videos but have just not got around to it, here are my top 5 tips to getting yourself on camera and helping make your business grow.

Tip 1 Make a start.

It’s really that simple. In fact, I would even recommend recording a quick video clip after finishing this article. Nothing is perfect the first time, actually, nothing is perfect ever, but the only way to make a start is to make a start. Recording your first video clip, even if you don’t post it, is the hardest step. Once you have done that, the rest is easy. Do it now. Find a quiet spot and film a quick introduction to yourself on camera. Acton is the procrastination cure. Don’t think about it, just do it.

Tip 2 Don’t worry about what people think.

This often stops us from doing stuff especially when it involves putting ourselves out there. In reality, most people are more concerned about their own stuff than about you. We often feel that we are under the spotlight much more than we actually are.

Tip 3 Provide value.

If your only motivation is to provide value to people, then this will drive you to act and to not worry so much about how you are coming across on camera. Make everything about your audience and not about you. Concentrate on your message and not being boring to your audience. Would it really make a difference to your message if you made a small mistake, or the lighting was not quite, right? Make everything about them and not you, put your ego to one side, make your content valuable to your audience and the whole process will be much more enjoyable.

Tip 4 Don’t try for perfection

Perfection does not exist! One more time, perfection does not exist. I have been making content for over 35 years and I can honestly say I found lots of faults in everything I have ever done.

In most industries, a professional is someone who has client deadlines so has to get the things done quickly. So, make yourself a ‘pro’ by setting your own deadlines and finishing on time, even if you think you can do better with a few more goes. This will completely transform your process and turn you into a ‘pro’ immediately. Set a deadline to post the video and a timeline to do it. Be your own client.

Tip 5 Don’t compare yourself to others.

You are not too old, too young, too anything. We are all unique and have valuable experience that, when shared, can make a real difference to people’s lives.

So don’t worry about what other people are doing and just get out there and do it. Provide value and people will respond and want to do business with you. It really is as simple as that. So, start making videos now!
