It’s been a huge journey from the franchise recruitment process to where I am today, and while there’s still a long way to go, I’m proud of the progress I’ve made so far.
One of my biggest learnings over the past few months has been just how important it is to build on existing relationships and put trust in myself. I’ve spent a lot of time getting to know my current customers, better understanding their businesses more deeply and identifying opportunities to support them with wider signage requirements. It’s not just about fulfilling orders; it’s about providing value and creative solutions they may not have thought about.
At the same time, I’m proactively expanding my local network. I’ve lined up three upcoming business networking events, which I’m really looking forward to. They’re a great chance to meet other business owners in Huddersfield and Halifax, increase local visibility, and share what we do at Signs Express.
A turning point in this journey has been working closely with Stuart, Head of Sales at the Franchise Support Centre. Together, we’ve reviewed the numbers and dug into where opportunities lie, by sector, by service, by customer. That analysis gave me clarity and allowed me to start taking more initiative when speaking with clients. I’m even getting more involved in the creative design process, which I never expected, but really enjoy.
Coming from a background more familiar with B2C, I’ve had to adapt my mindset. B2B can be a slower burn, it’s about nurturing relationships, delivering consistently, and being top of mind when the need arises. Tess from the Franchise Support Centre has been fantastic in helping me with our social media, which is starting to open more doors and keep us present and visible within the local business community.
My confidence is growing. I’m learning to trust myself more and recognise that my personality and determination are powerful tools in selling our service. It’s a work in progress, but I’m getting there!
There’s still a lot to learn, of course. My focus now is on becoming faster and more confident when quoting, building stronger customer rapport, and continuing to develop the Halifax territory, which is still new for us. My wife Kali and I recently had dinner with Jonathan Bean, MD of Signs Express, and Emma Wakefield (Head of Franchise Recruitment) an evening that really reinforced how much support is available from the wider network which is comforting in a new industry.
This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. I’ve grown professionally and personally. I’m excited to see where Signs Express can go from here and what the future holds for our Huddersfield and Halifax centre.”
