The head office team of the Belvoir Group travelled across the border into Rutland recently, to undertake a 23-mile charity walk. The journey around Rutland Water, which is located close to the county town of Oakham, raised more than £6k for the mental health charity Mind.

As many as 13 members of the Lincolnshire-based team completed the full 23 miles, while nine others covered nine miles. Louise George, the company’s chief financial officer said: “We were well-represented across the Belvoir Group and various central office teams. We were joined by several directors from Belvoir, Northwood and Newton Fallowell.

“This walk gave us all an opportunity to meet up again following months of home working. Some team members had walked a lot during the various lockdowns, but it’s fair to say that others were definitely not seasoned walkers. We started with a total of 24 walkers, plus a dog called Murtle. Nine walkers, and the dog, were scheduled to stop at lunchtime, after nine miles, while the remainder of us went for the full Rutland Water challenge of 23 miles. Blisters defeated one walker, but the rest of us finished the entire circuit.”

The decision to select Mind as the charity of choice was explained by Belvoir‘s marketing director Kiara Simmance: “Two-thirds of people with existing mental health problems have reported that their mental health and well-being worsened during the pandemic. As a team, we decided to raise funds for Mind, which is keen to ensure that nobody faces mental health problems alone.”

And the Group’s chief executive Dorian Gonsalves added his own personal congratulations, by saying: “For most of the team, the distance walked was a big personal achievement. More importantly, it was fantastic for many members of the Belvoir Group support team to meet their colleagues again, after such a long period of home working. We are all delighted that we raised more than £6k for a very worthy cause.”

The head of community fundraising at Mind, Ian O’Reilly, expressed his thanks to the Belvoir Group: “We are really grateful to their employees for choosing to support Mind through their impressive 23-mile walk. It continues to be a really challenging time and many of us will be feeling the impact of the pandemic on our mental health and wellbeing.

“One in four of us will experience a mental health problem in any given year, and it’s so important that no one has to face this alone. Every donation that Mind receives allows us to campaign to improve services and provide information and support. Our services include the Mind Infoline, legal line and our online peer support community for adults. We aim to be there for as many people as possible.”
