Do franchises actually recognise the individual?

The truth is, owning a franchise is more than just becoming another branch in the brand tree. It's a model that enables individual fulfilment, all while taking the risk out of starting from scratch.

We’ve all had the ambition of building a business we’re proud to hold our name to.

For me, owning my first home care business became an opportunity to create something meaningful, successfully meeting an unlimited demand of care and positively impacting peoples’ lives.  Did I mention it was a franchise?

Many people assume that joining a franchise means signing away your individuality, operating under their principals, their logo, their culture.  From the outside, it might feel like anything but yours.

The truth is, owning a franchise is more than just becoming another branch in the brand tree.  It’s a model that enables individual fulfilment, all while taking the risk out of starting from scratch.

So, do franchises actually recognise the individual? Here’s my take.

If you’re about to sign, your individuality has already been considered

A good franchisor doesn’t flog licenses to just anyone.

At Walfinch, we’ve turned people away before because they weren’t right for us, whether due to difference in personality, lack of ambition, or financial limitations.  If you’ve made it this far in a franchise discussion, they’ve recognised your potential to Thrive.  If you’re being pushed to sign and don’t feel seen as a professional, get out of there.

Your individual experience matters

You’ll arrive at this decision with an extensive career behind you.  Your experience and skillsets are not reset when you join a franchise; your individual contributions enrich the model.

We’ve had marketers, accountants, recruiters, and managers all join Walfinch and make a tangible difference to how we operate.  Most of our franchisees arrive with no previous care experience, and that’s fine.  We value ambition, perseverance, vision, and coachability.  That, to us, is the kind of individual with the potential to Thrive.

Tailored support, designed to fit you

Business is a peoples’ game.  Investing in and operating a franchise is emotional work, which is why it’s crucial your chosen franchise recognises how you communicate, even after signing.  Our Franchise Support Managers, Julie Farrow and Richard Stanfield, are people experts.  They understand that Franchisee A receives feedback differently to Franchisee B; they never approach two people the same, because no two people are the same.

For example, when I was a franchisee, I hated stuffy office meetings.  I started suggesting coffee shops or park walks instead, and eventually, this became my tailored standard.

You are entering a network of individuals

Another deeply enriching aspect of joining a franchise, is the realisation that you’re joining a network of individuals.  Your neighbour might have an eye for social media, where you don’t.  You might be better at networking than they are. Together, you grow.

By buying into a franchise, you are buying into a connected, driven network of professionals, all headed the same direction.  Sounds better than sitting in a home office trying to make your solo-mission work, doesn’t it?

Remember: you can build something for yourself without being by yourself.  Joining a franchise provides you with a national brand, personalised support, and a camaraderie like no other.  Are you the kind of person you would Thrive in a franchise?

That’s up to you and nobody else to decide.
