Market predictability and consistency are not a given and stock fluctuations can lead to unwanted monetary losses. For those seeking greater levels of stability, choosing the right investment is a must. While different options exist, I believe franchising is the key to investment success.
Why? Because it offers investors steady growth opportunities and more reliable returns. The best part is the freedom that comes with being able to enjoy a healthy cash flow based on a recession-resistant model. Below, I cover why franchising is right for prospective investors.
The power behind the “proven formula”
The franchising concept is based on sound numbers and proven performance. Franchises base their success on a business model that has, through the years, demonstrated an ability to create steady earnings.
Investing in this model works. It’s because it does not involve guesswork but rather an investment in something that has a manual for success, an established brand and even existing customers.
Because building a recognised and trusted brand can take years to achieve, the franchise model is a safe option that takes this entire process out of the equation.
Scaling without the stress
For many entrepreneurs, scaling a business can feel like a stressful experience. Being the driver behind the decisions involves a lot of careful thought and planning.
However, being a part of a franchise means you are in partnership with the parent brand, which is invested in your success. You get all the necessary training, tools and support to help your business thrive.
Apart from support, there are many opportunities for growth. Instead of running a single franchise location, you can quickly build onto your current ownership and expand with more franchise units
Additionally, some franchises allow you to be a semi-absentee owner, which means hiring a manager who carries out the day to day duties for you. You don’t have to be hands-on and can focus on other aspects of your life.
Lastly, the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) tools also reduces many repetitive or mundane daily tasks.
Where true wealth lies
You may think that high levels of wealth lie in stock markets and in “big” ideas. But that’s not always the case. For entrepreneurs looking for steady wins and consistent growth, focusing on smaller, recession-proof footprints is the way to go.
Franchising primarily deals with addressing people’s immediate needs. This means businesses that cater to regular concerns, such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) services, senior care, pet grooming and others.
Added to these “footprint” opportunities is also the chance to run small operations such as kiosks or drive-thrus, which can cost less to rent.
The “Five Fs” of franchise marketing
I created the Five Fs of Franchise Marketing model to help franchises. It can act as a framework to evaluate the health of a franchise opportunity you are considering. The Five Fs model includes the following:
Fantastic Reputation means working on an intangible asset that can help your business succeed. As a potential investor, you can look at whether the brand is respected by customers, partners and other stakeholders.
Franchisee Network looks at helping to empower the network through sound marketing strategies and tools. The support of this community is undeniable for business growth.
Focused Team means considering the credentials, abilities and skills of the team in place. As you evaluate the franchise opportunity, look at how work is delegated and how cohesive the team is.
Full Funnel focuses on evaluating the franchises’ ability to generate quality leads. Consider how it is attracting and retaining customers. Note whether the franchise regularly tracks and measures performance and acts on the insights.
Finding the Fit deals with whether the franchise aligns with your lifestyle and goals. Look at the ways in which the franchise attracts leads, the onboarding and training it offers, and what opportunities it offers for a smooth yet profitable withdrawal. The full model can be found in my best-selling book “Franchise Fame”, available on Amazon.
Conclusion
Franchising is an excellent gateway for business growth and success. It is an investment in time but the returns are worth it. Not only are you building on an existing business with an established brand, but you also don’t have to run it on your own.
When you’re ready, you can consider selling your franchise unit(s) for a higher multiple.
