Have you ever thought about using your voice to stand out in a sea of connections? Maximising your direct message options to make them truly meaningful and impactful?
Clubhouse* has certainly amplified the growing audio trend. I absolutely adore their approach to social media and their focus on those ‘who’d rather listen than follow’.
It inspired me to leverage convenient yet commonly undervalued and underused tools on other social channels. Tools that allow me to connect deeper with even more people in a way that really gets my personality across.
I’m talking about the voice notes feature on LinkedIn.
I’ve been experimenting with voice messages for a while now with great results. Most significantly increased response levels and times.
Here’s why I think that is…
Voice notes are much more personal. They instantly reveal your tone and personality. It’s very difficult to get these things across consistently in a written message. They’re also a great way to show you care, there’s no risk of sending out a generic copy and paste message.
Here’s how to do it…
From your mobile phone start a direct message to someone as you usually would on LinkedIn, by viewing a person’s profile and selecting ‘message’. Look to the right of where you would usually type your message, there is a little microphone icon. Press and hold that icon, a box will appear to indicate that it’s recording your voice message. Slide to the left to cancel any recording (handy when you first start using this feature) or release your finger to send the voice note. It’s important to note that LinkedIn limits voice notes to 50 seconds so keep your voice note clear and concise.
Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook messenger also have their own voice note features.
Here are a few ideas for you to explore leveraging the power of and building your confidence with using audio in your franchise…
- Simply checking in with people you already know if a great way to get started with voice notes.
- Thanking new connections instantly builds rapport
- Reaching out for 121s or appointments – this is the area that I’ve had the biggest uptake and greatest positive feedback. I’ve even had people tagging me in posts to say how great it was to receive a voice message!
