After seeing his grandfather receive sub-par care, Trevor Brocklebank didn’t think twice when he was offered the chance to bring American franchise Home Instead to the UK in 2005. Since then he’s worked tirelessly to improve the way the elderly are cared for. And after 11 years, he’s stepping down after Home Instead Senior Care UK announced that the business has been acquired for an undisclosed sum by its US founding franchisor Home Instead.
Trevor Brocklebank has accepted a new role as CEO emeritus, while his co-founder and wife Sam Brocklebank has left the company to care for their family. The UK offices will be led by former UK chief operating officer Martin Jones, who is stepping into the role of managing director to work closely with the parent company.
Commenting on the acquisition, Trevor Brocklebank said: “After 11 incredible years building up the Home Instead Senior Care family, Sam and I wanted to find the best way to position the UK network for continued growth and success. It became clear that the best path forward was to join the UK business together with the US founding business.”
While he’s no longer the owner of the franchise, Brocklebank isn’t done with the world of franchising just yet. Later this year, he’s set to chair both the bfa and the United Kingdom Homecare Association, having served as treasurer since October 2013.
Both Brocklebanks can certainly hand over the reigns knowing they gave it their all, and will have a mantelpiece full of trophies to keep polishing. While they were at the helm, Home Instead Senior Care’s network grew to include 175 franchisees caring for 8,000 people in their own homes. And the couple’s efforts to transform senior care in the UK have been awarded several times. Not only were they nominated for the bfa HSBC Franchisor of the Year Award in both 2015 and 2016, but they’ve also been given the Queen’s Award for Innovation and an inaugural Princess Royal Training Award.
With the accolades like these, it’s safe to say that Trevor Brocklebank’s grandfather would be proud.
