Global gym franchisor’s growth path promises further additions to portfolio

Global gym franchise, Snap Fitness, has hit the major milestone of 100locations across the UK & Ireland, following the recent opening of its gym in Southport.

While the company, which opened its first UK gym in Kent in 2012, is now the sixth largest private gym operator in the UK, the brand isn’t standing still, with four more openings planned before the end of 2024 and close to 20 expected in 2025 – asserting itself as the UK’s fastest growing gym franchise.

As Kevin Yates, CEO of Snap Fitness EMEA put it: “This is a fantastic milestone for us but we’re just getting started.”

He added: “The key for us is not standing still and there are so many exciting developments in the pipeline for what we offer members in our gyms. We’re relentlessly ambitious and while there are of course bigger and more well-known gym operators out there, we’re focusing on ourselves and working towards offering the best and most supportive member experience available.”

Befitting an impressive growth trajectory, the company’s franchisee network is performing well too – reporting year-on-year membership growth of 17.4%. Or more than four times the industry average of 4.1%.

It is also laser focussed on improving the in-gym experience of its members. It continues to invest significantly in the internal design and experience of its gyms, with its newer gyms beginning to introduce state-of-the-art recovery areas and added value offerings such as infrared saunas.

There are also major developments in the pipeline for its fitness programming, giving members access to unique group exercise offerings and digital experiences.

In addition to its 100 UK & Ireland sites, Snap Fitness has over 1,000 gyms across 20 countries, supporting more than one million members with their health and fitness goals.

Its gym owner network comprises a combination of franchisees new to franchising, as well as investors with leading franchises in other sectors such as Costa, Dominos, KFC and German Doner Kebab. With more people in the UK than ever before having a gym membership (2024 State of the UK Fitness Industry Report), a growing number of investors are seeing its potential.

The total start-up cost of opening a Snap Fitness gym can reach up to £750,000 depending on size and location, but with up to 70% of this able to be financed with leading high street banking partners.
