Many franchisors think I’m crazy for still teaching classes, however I always tell them but that’s my strength. I started diddi dance from a passion for a child’s first experience of a dance class being a positive one and I’m still as passionate about that why to this day!
So when I came to scale up the business through franchising I knew I needed a well balance team with people who have the skills I don’t. And that meant finding the right team to play to their strengths and compliment each other.
I’m a yellow, im energetic, passionate, creative and a people person. I can be 100 mph and throw ideas out wanting quick responses. I’m not great at finer details. I can also be a red at times when taking action and driving the business forward. The HO team are a mixture of green and blue. They consider decisions more carefully and take their time on the finer details and processes. They weigh elements up and will tell me if the next whirlwind idea just wont work. We compliment each other which then helps the business grow more strategically.
I didn’t always have the patience for this but having attended a few webinars now on personality analysis and management ive become a lot more understanding of this balance and appreciated the mix we have. I know which members are best for 121 support, mental health first aid, data analysis and motivation. I know who to get to deliver feedback, to lead talks and updates for which area of the business too.
I wouldn’t say I always get it right but I feel the balance is there now and when you understand how someone may work differently to you and your way isn’t always the right way you can get the best out of your teams but also they hopefully get the best our of you, it leads to better authenticity, openness and honesty without conflict. We know how to stay in our lane but also over take into another when a creative idea comes. My flamboyant impulses are now considered and analysed better and we all appreciate each others strengths.
So, if you haven’t explored any behaviour profiling tools and training yet I would highly recommend it, it could help you retain great talent and take a deeper look at your management style to reflect how you lead your team and network.
We should never stop learning or get stuck in our ways to help our business thrive.
