Established in the UK in 2005, Home Instead was the first of its kind, disrupting the market, introducing an ‘in home care’ model to the social care landscape.
Today, Home Instead continues to be the household name for home care, building strong relationships with the wider healthcare sector and being a forward-facing company that people aspire to work for, work with or recommend.
Widely acknowledged as industry leading, not only for their successful business model, but for the outstanding care it provides, Home Instead provide a supportive and growing network of over 255 franchise offices across the UK, and a 70 strong national office, meaning franchisees are provided with all they need to thrive.
Home Instead is led by a powerhouse in the care sector, Martin Jones MBE. Initially joining the sector following his experience in caring for his father who needed support, Martin came to understand the importance of home care and the positive impact it could have on families like his.
Shortly after, Martin joined Home Instead, initially as Chief Operating Officer in 2011. He went on to be Managing Director and then CEO – overseeing over 255 franchise offices that deliver care to thousands of clients. Martin was made an MBE in 2023’s New Year Honours for services to older people.
The home care sector is booming, we have an ageing population and families are increasingly making this their preferred choice for their loved ones. Home Instead’s impressive growth reflects this rise in popularity.
Home Instead provides an opportunity to own a scaleable business which is rewarding in more ways than one. Many Home Instead franchisees have gone on to build significant multi-million-pound businesses, with two or more territories.
As well as a small number of new territories, there are also some resales available which are existing successful businesses with a client base, an office team and dedicated care professionals.
For a new franchise, our franchise fee is £41,000 (exc. VAT), with an ongoing royalty fee of 6.5% (exc. VAT). For a resale, the franchise fee is £20,500 (exc. VAT), with an ongoing royalty fee of 6.5%
For a new franchise the total investment required is between £90,000 and £110,000, including working capital and the franchise fee. For a resale, in addition to the fees, there is the price at which the current franchise is being sold
Half of our franchisees turn over £1 million a year and our highest achieving owners turn over between £2.5 million and £3 million per year. We’d expect an established office to achieve an operating profit (before franchise owner earnings) of about 12-18%. It’s worth noting that a market share of just 0.5% of older people in your territory could potentially produce annual revenues of £1.1 million.
We’ve established good relationships with particular High Street banks who have a strong understanding of the franchise sector. As Home Instead has a proven model with over 250 successful franchises, these banks will consider funding up to 70% of the total investment required for new franchises and 80% of the total investment over a longer period for a resale. This is a great testament to both our brand and the opportunity that our franchises represent.
