Kebabs might usually be thought of as post-pub grub rather than healthy, high-quality cuisine but German Doner Kebab is rapidly changing that reputation. It’s winning over foodies with kebabs that are lower in calories and made from fresh ingredients. And having successfully launched its first UK franchise last year, the street-food company is now eyeing the market in Northern Ireland too.
Inspired by German street food and founded in 1989, the franchise now has 45 sit-in restaurants worldwide. But that number is surely going to grow soon. The master franchise rights to bring German Doner Kebab to the UK were acquired by United Brands, the multi-brand business group owned by the Sarwar family, after Athif Sarwar tasted its kebabs during a visit to Dubai and fell in love with the concept. Now the company plans to open over 200 stores in the UK over the next five years and has already opened 80 franchise locations in the country.
The push into Northern Ireland is a part of that expansion. “We are sure the public in Northern Ireland are going to love the product as much as we do,” said Imran Sayeed, CEO of German Doner Kebab UK. “We are currently looking for multi-store franchisees in Northern Ireland and right across the UK, with a minimum of three store cluster deals.”
And having been crowned England’s Best Takeaway at the Food Awards England last year, it certainly seems as if German Doner Kebab has all the right ingredients for success.
