The ultra-fast grocery economy

The grocery economy has been revolutionised by Getir, the pioneer of ultra-fast grocery delivery. Recognising the consumer’s appetite for speed and reliability, with the click of a button essentials can be delivered directly to customers’ doors in minutes!  The value of time has never been so appreciated.

Getir was founded in 2015 by innovator Nazim Salur in its birthplace, Turkey.  At the start of last year, the company continued to launch overseas in the UK and has challenged the ultra-fast grocery industry ever since. Getir began its UK journey with five distribution centres in January 2021, and now has an incredible 137 distribution centres taking orders across 15 UK cities.

Be a part of the market growth

Consumers have accelerated the online sales market, placing more orders than ever before. According to Statista, the average value of online sales is £357.8m, with the online grocery and food sector claiming an impressive 30% of all online sales. Getir franchised its first UK distribution centre in August 2021 and since then has expanded operations, offering even more franchise opportunities within the industry.

Its global growth saw Getir launch in 9 countries in just 7 months, serving urban populations throughout Europe and the US. Further success was achieved early this year, seeing Getir named a decacorn, with a valuation of $11.8bn. This new status makes it Europe’s fastest-growing ultra-fast grocery delivery app in the industry.

Technology matters

For Getir, speed is currency. The company invests in and brings together market-leading technology, logistics, infrastructure and staff for ultra-fast groceries every time. Technology is behind its rapid UK growth and ambitious expansion plans and helps to streamline order fulfilment.  Orders are collected on Getir’s app and seamlessly sent to distribution centres. Thanks to Getir’s system, franchisees take over a fully operational store that’s already accepting orders. Getir manages the end-to-end control of the supply chain, ensuring that customers can order their favourite products. Getir buys and stocks a range of over 2,000 products from its suppliers, provides franchisees with an existing fleet and its technology for grocery essentials in minutes!

Fighting food waste

Most recently Getir joined forces with Neighbourly to fight food waste. Since the launch of the partnership earlier this year, Getir has donated 32,600 meals and set out to donate 6m meals by the end of the year to over 300 charities. Its mission is to better the lives of people who share its community.

Sustainability is also at the heart of every delivery, with orders being delivered by electric bikes and scooters.

Creating employment opportunities

Getir is creating more and more jobs in the UK. It disregards the gig economy, employing all of its staff, which differentiates it from many of its competitors. In particular, it protects the rights of couriers, who historically have received little to no employee safeguarding and benefits from the industry. Getir pays its 4,000+ employees a real living wage, certified by The Real Living Wage Foundation and all employees receive pensions, sick pay, paid holidays and insurance. Additionally, its distribution centres have free refreshments and restrooms, providing a haven from the British weather.

Franchises have an opportunity to build their skills with Getir in a culture of knowledge sharing that is integral to the business. Getir prides its success on its strong network of franchise owners, who work to raise standards and better practices.
