How to fall back in love with your franchise

Ever feel like running your franchise has lost its spark? Rebecca Newenham reveals how to reignite your passion for your franchise.

Running a franchise isn’t always easy. Particularly after the challenges of the past few years, you might be starting to question if your franchise is still right for you. Before you make a life-changing decision to sell your franchise, reframing your mindset might help you discover that your franchise is exactly what you wished for after all.

Remember why you started your franchise in the first place

Think back to the excitement of when you first signed the contract and launched your business. Were you looking for a better work-life balance? Did you want to take charge of your own diary and destiny? Were you passionate about the industry your franchise is in? Write down those reasons and take some time to reflect on them. Have you actually achieved them? If you have, celebrate that success. Be proud of what you have achieved. If you haven’t, are they still possible whilst running your franchise?

Think about how you can do things differently

Just because you have been running your franchise a certain way doesn’t mean that’s the only way. Talk to the franchise owner or engage a business coach to help you look at your situation differently. If you are getting bored because you’re finding things too easy, could you buy another territory or open another outlet to expand your business? Are there new services that you could offer? A new project might be just what you need to get you firing on all cylinders and driving your franchise forwards.

Outsource the tasks you don’t enjoy

Analyse what you spend your time on and evaluate what’s making you frustrated or dissatisfied. As a franchise owner, it can be easy to get bogged down in administration or pulled into spending time on tasks like marketing which aren’t your strength. Is invoicing giving you a headache, or are you desperate to get out to promote your business but just don’t have the time? Many business tasks can be effectively outsourced to virtual assistants or virtual outsourcing agencies. Not only can they take on the tasks you don’t enjoy, but they can also add real expertise to your business. Outsourcing enables you to get back to doing what you enjoy about running your franchise.

Running a franchise can be a hugely rewarding career option, allowing you to enjoy all the freedom of running your own business but with a strong team to go to for support. To work for yourself, but not by yourself. To be in charge of your own destiny and benefit from regular training. A simple reset or goal-setting exercise can help you rediscover your passion for your franchise and help make this the best year for your franchise yet.
