‘Working in the pet care industry is good for your physical and mental well-being’

According to market research carried out by Barking Mad, results found that those taking roles in the pet care sector enjoyed a greater quality of life.

Pet franchise Barking Mad is on the lookout for even more women franchisees. Although around 90% of Barking Mad‘s franchisees are women, the Kidderminster-based business wants more. And the company’s managing director believes the pet care industry is ideal for prospective female business owners, with a survey claiming it improves physical and mental well-being.

Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8th, Barking Mad decided to carry out research to demonstrate the benefits of joining the pet care industry. Rachel Stewart, MD, said: “The pet care industry already attracts women from all walks of life, but we wanted to share the reasons why.

“The last 12 months have revealed a lot of elements about where and how people work. Workers are demanding more flexibility, as well as improved mental and physical wellbeing from their employers. But our research demonstrates that this is already a given when working in the pet care industry.

“More importantly, we found that four out of five of our respondents (81%) said one of the best parts of their job is getting to work with fellow animal lovers. This proves why networks like Barking Mad are so important.”

Barking Mad, part of the Franchise Brands Group, discovered that females working in the pet care industry said they felt more empowered than in previous jobs. The survey they conducted produced the following results:

  • 55% enjoyed a better work/life balance;
  • 52% reported greater flexibility in their personal lives;
  • 48% cited it gave them greater control of their professional lives;
  • 33% said their psychological and mental state had improved;
  • 25% felt they were physically in better shape than during their previous jobs.

Rachel added: “We encourage our franchise owners to work with hosts who also adore animals, so they can share that passion together. It’s this joint excitement, care and enjoyment of working with pets, which is what helps drive such a fantastic service for customers.

“Many people, sadly, have found themselves out of work due to the pandemic, and looking to change their career. Working in the pet care industry, as part of a franchise, may well be the best next step if you have an equal fondness for animals and want flexibility in your work.

“As many as 90% of our franchises are owned by women, and with new territories available across the UK, we are urging fellow animal lovers – who are looking for a change in career – to consider joining us. We welcome anyone interested in an opportunity with Franchise Brands and Barking Mad to get in touch. There are pets ready and waiting for you.”
