Indoor climbing has seen a surge in popularity over recent months. New market research has shown a 40-50% increase in the number of people wanting to take up the sport, with climbing now making its official Olympic debut in the 2020 Tokyo games. To meet the growing demand, UK’s leading leisure company Clip ‘n Climb have announced plans to launch its first 100 franchise centres across the UK.

Clip ‘n Climb, which began its UK operations in 2011, now boasts over 80 centres across the UK with an estimated turnover of £25 million per year – and now hopes to branch out and open its first ever franchises.

Franchisees who choose to invest in a Clip ‘n Climb business can expect an installation more than 40 indoor and outdoor climbing challenges designed to appeal to people of all age groups, allowing each climber to get a taste of the adventurous sport while in the safety of a supervised environment.

Families can participate in multiple climbing challenges – and even children from as young as 4-years-old can join in the fun. Clip ‘n Climb’s uses its own unique Trublue auto belay devices – an automated device that takes up the slack as a climber ascends the wall, and also catches a climber and lowers them slowly to the ground in case they fall. This allows anyone the ability to participate in the challenges no matter their skill set or climbing experience. Each centre will also have an in-house café, party rooms and additional soft play areas for children.

Meanwhile, franchisees will undergo training and receive constant support in a comprehensive programme that teaches business planning, finance and safety measures.

In addition, they will receive exclusive discounts on equipment, maintenance checks, further training, early access to upgrades, new climbing wall releases, marketing support and additional booking system features.

“Clip ‘n Climb has revolutionised indoor climbing,” Vicky Coupe, Clip ‘n Climb franchise manager, said. The theme park meets climbing wall concept offers a thrill and challenge to people of four years of age all the way up to 80+.

“We’ve seen leisure climbing grow in popularity since we installed the first Clip ‘n Climb centre in the UK and industry insights report a 40-50 per cent increase of indoor climbers in the last two years alone. With the news that sport climbing will make its Olympic debut at the games in Japan 2020 its popularity is set to soar and so it’s the perfect time to look for the right people in the right locations to share in our success.”

“Launching the franchise model marks a major milestone and cements our ambition to give even more people in the UK access to fun, safe, indoor climbing.”
