Providing peace of mind for all during later life

Bluebird Care remains ahead of the game in this ever-changing Covid-influenced world

According to Age UK’s 2019 report titled ‘Later Life,’ there are nearly 12 million people, aged 65 and over, living in the UK. And by 2030 it is predicted that one in five will make up this ever-expanding age group. This obviously begs the question: What does this mean for the nation’s care sector, because demand will continue to increase?

Understandably, many older people would prefer to stay in the comfort of their own homes as long as they can. Home does not just mean a place to lay your head it also represents independence, stability and flexibility. Perhaps, most importantly, a home is filled with a lifetime of memories, such as raising children, family Christmases or spending many happy years with a partner.

The ongoing pandemic has provided more reasons for keeping loved ones safe in the comfort of their own homes – where possible. Older people, along with those with existing medical conditions, are more at risk, so it’s more important than ever that vulnerable loved ones are protected. Those who are high risk must shield and stay away from other people as much as possible. In such cases, it is recommended that they ask a friend or family member to collect food for them, or maybe opt for shopping online instead.

A care assistant can step in if a friend or family member is not available to help. By receiving care in the safety and comfort of their own home, a person who is at risk will limit their contact to just a handful of people. A trusted care assistant can attend to their needs, whether that’s collecting groceries, cooking a meal, tidying the house or helping them in and out of bed.

Friends and family members can rest assured that their loved ones will be in safe hands. At Bluebird Care, all our care assistants are trained to minimise the risk of spreading the virus to customers while still delivering a high-quality service. For example, we have added to our infection control measures to ensure that all customer-facing staff members strictly adhere to the necessary procedures for handwashing and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

In addition, we have rolled out a Coronavirus toolkit, which includes updated information on the virus, advice for customers, staff members and franchisees. We have designed and printed posters that display the correct handwashing techniques. With so many sources of information – and some of it differing in approach – we are dedicated to ensuring our staff have the most up-to-date and accurate instructions. If you would like to be a part of the solution, and help protect the UK’s ageing population at this difficult time, you can apply to join our award-winning franchise network at Bluebird Care.
