Carefest teams up with 80’s pop icon Sonia to celebrate South Yorkshire’s care workers

Carefest made a spectacular comeback to Sheffield over the bank holiday weekend, celebrating its fourth year with a bang.

Carefest made a spectacular comeback to Sheffield over the bank holiday weekend, celebrating its fourth year with a bang. This annual festival is a heartfelt tribute to the dedicated carers, nurses, doctors, emergency responders and healthcare professionals who make a difference every day. This year’s festival surpassed all expectations, drawing nearly 500 attendees who enjoyed a vibrant mix of food, drinks, live music, family-friendly activities and memorable performances by Homecare’s Got Talent winner Gordon Robertson and 80’s pop star Sonia.

Founded in 2021 by Dan Archer, the UK CEO of Visiting Angels, Carefest was created to honour the vital work of carers and frontline workers. The event is open to all those who serve on the front lines, providing them with a well-deserved opportunity to relax and revel in a day dedicated to fun and appreciation.

“Year after year, Carefest has been a cherished day for care staff and key workers to come together and enjoy some well-deserved fun,” said Dan. “Even though the weather was a bit unpredictable this year, we were fortunate that the usual bank holiday rain stayed away – allowing us to fully celebrate the incredible people who give so much to our community.

“We can’t afford to overlook the dedication of these amazing workers. If they don’t feel appreciated, we risk losing them from the care sector. That’s why it’s so important for them to know that their hard work is recognised. Carefest is our way of showing gratitude each year, making sure they understand just how much they mean to all of us.”

Alongside the standout performances by Gordon Robertson and Sonia, the stage was alive with talent from Yorkshire-based singer and actor Joseph O’Brien, the vibrant party band Rapture and emerging stars from the Razzmatazz Theatre School. Guests were treated to an array of activities, including local business stalls, face painting, rides and a hog roast. As a special token of gratitude, care workers from South Yorkshire enjoyed complimentary food and drinks throughout the event.

The event certainly did not disappoint, as one attendee put it, “This was our third time at Carefest and, while it’s always been a great experience, this year really topped them all. The bigger stage was a huge success and the entertainment had something for everyone. We loved the variety of stalls, food stands and, of course, the bar. We stay the entire afternoon every year and we’d recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic time. We’re already excited to come back next year!”

Continuing its tradition of community support, Carefest this year contributed to two significant local charities – Paces and the Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. Through collection tins and raffles, the festival successfully raised hundreds of pounds to support these deserving organisations.

“I’m truly thankful to everyone who came out to support our amazing care workers and two wonderful charities,” added Dan. “It was so heartwarming to see so many people come together to show their appreciation and have a great time. We couldn’t have achieved this without the dedication and contributions of everyone involved. Bring on Carefest 2025!”
