remarkably successful first 12 months in business, Duncan and Tania Berry have

franchise rights for spa810.

Medical spa – or medi spa as many people now call it – is one of the booming industries of the new millennium.

And one company, which has enjoyed a remarkable first year of trading, is Yorkshire-based spa810.

Launched in February 2019, by the husband and wife team of Duncan and Tania Berry, spa810 has made an impressive start to life, and recently unveiled a number of new treatments.

From its headquarters in Royal Parade, Harrogate, spa810 (pronounced ‘spa eight ten’) offers a selection of carefully curated spa and non-invasive medical treatments.

These include body sculpting, advanced facials, laser-hair removal, plus a variety of massages, all administered by a highly trained and qualified team of aesthetic therapists.

More recently, they have expanded their range of treatments by introducing aesthetic injectables, such as anti-wrinkle treatments, dermal fillers and skin boosters, and which are conducted by an experienced doctor.

According to Duncan, “spa810 fills a much-needed gap in the market. On the one side there is the five-star spa hotels, with their high-end pricing, while on the other there are local independent businesses which provide a fragmented and inconsistent service.

“Our female and male customers are provided with massages, facials and skincare treatments, using market-leading FDA approved technologies – and administered by professionals.

“We have state-of-the-art lasers for hair removal, and there is non-surgical fat reduction equipment.”

But rather than focus completely on developing their own Harrogate outlet, Duncan and Tania Berry have expanded their business ambitions by purchasing the UK master franchise rights from spa810‘s American franchisor.

During his career, Duncan has managed a number of leading franchise businesses, such as Cartridge World, Choice Hotels Europe and, more recently,
Bluebird Care.

He has twice been elected to the British Franchise Association’s board of directors.

Looking back over their first few months in Harrogate, Duncan added: “We’re delighted with how well the spa810 treatments have been received.

“We believe the brand meets a significant demand in the market, while the addition of aesthetic injectables will only help to attract a new client-base.

“To date, the multi-million pound medi-spa market has largely been served by practitioners or doctor-led clinics.

“But an opportunity now exists with spa810 to bring a management-type franchise model to this market to meet a growing demand.”

And for those who enjoy playing the numbers game, this is what success looks like after 12 months in business: £291k gross turnover; 647 active clients, averaging three visits per client during the first year; an average transaction value of £134 from almost 2,200 transactions; 210 packages of treatments sold; 830 database contacts; and more than 500 followers on Instagram.
