Action Coaches raise almost £5k for cancer charity

It’s been another fruitful year for ActionCOACH in raising money for good causes.

Every year, on the 12th day of the 12th month, the men and women of ActionCOACH dedicate their time to raise money for charity. When this date comes around each December, they stop whatever they are doing to focus on running, walking or cycling 12km. And, in 2020, their efforts raised £4,782 for the charity Children With Cancer UK. Every day in the UK, 12 children are diagnosed with the disease.

There are many different ways to accomplish this annual challenge. Anu Khanna mounted her indoor bike and cycled twice the nominated distance. She said: “Thanks to everyone for posting their photos and videos which inspired me to do 24 kilometres, plus 2,500 steps.” Many of ActionCOACH‘s team took family members with them on their various walks, in a bid to raise money for the charity which undertakes ground-breaking research.

Lizzie Goates, a regional fundraiser for Children With Cancer UK whose headquarters are in Great Ormond Street, central London, said: “Our mission is to improve survival rates across all types of childhood cancer and also support children and their families both during and after treatment.

“Our aims are to determine the causes, find cures and provide care. Our small team is united by a common goal – to save and improve young lives.” For more than 30 years, the charity has tirelessly raised money for the cause with survival rates improving dramatically from 67% to more than 80%.

As for the efforts of those from ActionCOACH, Liz added: “They have all done amazingly. I cannot thank you all enough. What an incredible achievement and a great way to end the year.” Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has severely restricted the public’s activities during the past year, the charity lost 40% of their funding in 2020.

Yet this is not the first time ActionCOACH franchisees and head office staff have raised money for the charity. In memory of their much loved colleague, Kent Rhodes, their coaches climbed Ben Nevis in 2019 raising more than £12,000, with a number of future challenges already in the pipeline for the next couple of years.

Julie Wagstaff, managing director of ActionCOACH UK, said: “It’s wonderful to see so many franchise partners living our 14 points of culture and giving back to the community. The support and camaraderie that every franchise partner receives from their peers, as well as the UK support team, is second to none.”

And Ian Christelow, co-founder of the UK branch of ActionCOACH, added: “I can’t wait until we do fun get-togethers again. Hopefully, later this year, I’ll need to be doing overtime as social secretary. Franchise partners quickly discover that the whole network seeks to create fulfilment and fun, so all involved can enjoy life’s journey as well. We’ve held learning forums, taken part in sporting occasions, and have undertaken fundraising for charity, plus much, much more.”

London-based coach Mitali Chopra said: “I wanted to say ‘a big thank-you’ to the entire head office team for their phenomenal support and guidance during 2020. Although it’s not been a great start to 2021, with lockdown announced, I believe we’ll still improve the lives of others in the local community and I look forward to another brilliant year contributing to the vision of the company.”
